By 1961, Ford was clear that they wanted to develop a sporty coupe based on the Falcon platform. The first three concepts that ultimately formed the Mustang model were the Avventura, Avanti, and Allegro, respectively. Over the course of the first three models, the Avventura was shown as a hatch with rear-facing back seats. While that idea itself never happened, it did instigate a second body style they produced side by side with the coupe - the Fastback.
